Announcements re: COVID-19

ATTENTION PATIENTS 80 Years & older –  The government announced on Friday Feb 19 , 2021 for patients over 80 years to call their family doctors to get the COVID vaccine: THIS IS NOT CORRECT.  We heard about it the same time you did! We have no vaccines or information. We are watching carefully and will reach out to you when we have information. Please do NOT call the office as it ties up the phone lines and prevents patients from accessing care. Keep posted here, on our Instagram (@princeedwardmedical) and Facebook page: Prince Edward Medical for updates.

Back to School Clearance –  We believe that Doctor’s notes are not an appropriate use of health system resources; they potentially put patients, teachers and contacts at further risk and physicians are not generally in a position to adjudicate such matters. Your doctor cannot “clear” your child for return to school if they have symptoms that could potentially be Covid-19 without having a swab test done at a Covid Assessment Centre.

Instead, we feel that parents and families can use this “Covid-19 Decision Guide for Schools” followed by the “Back to School Confirmation Form” to fill and assess whether or not it is safe or prudent to go back to school/daycare or work.

Virtual Appointments – Your doctor may conduct the appointment by phone or by videoconference.

Handout: Virtual Appointment Tips

We are deferring non-essential in person appointment at the direction of the Ontario Medical Association. We will do as many appointments by phone as possible; including for prescription renewals, regular follow up of your medical conditions, as well as for urgent “same day” concerns. If necessary, your doctor may ask you to come in for an in person appointment.

Please note; the same policy for cancelling appointments applies for virtual appointments as for in-person appointments. Please provide a full business day notice to cancel/reschedule your appointment to avoid incurring a fee. If your doctor is unable to reach you for your scheduled virtual appointment, a “no show” fee will be enforced.

Saturday Urgent Clinic (open 9-12) – as of March 2020 the Saturday clinic is by appointment only. Please do NOT “walk in”, please CALL prior to arrival. Phone lines will be open at 8:30am.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

This information may change as we gather new information. We will post updates on our website and Instagram as we have them.

Sincerely, PEM Doctors – Dec 8, 2020
